I've joined this forum hoping to talk to people who are also interested in bushcraft, camping and exploring. I have sen some programs on television (Ray Mears, etc) but in real life in Yorkshire, I'm quite lost.
Now before you tell me to get an OS map and a compass, I actually mean I dont know where to go to practice my survival/bushcraft/bushwacking skills in the Yorkshire and surrounding area.
Hopefully I'll find the info on this forum.
Hope to make some new friends here and have a good chat with like-mindeds.
Regards
Crow

Welcome Crow!
I hope along with all the other members, moderators, and admin, some of whom will also great you, that you enjoy the forum and that you enjoy taking part in any discussions already running, or start your own.
Your best bet is to contact some landowners to see if they will let you practice bushcraft on their land.... best find somwhere with a mixed woodland so you will have a number of different woods, both deciduous and conerferous to work with. You could also ask the scouts if you can use any of their sites when they are not using them for a donation to the scouts.

Hi crowfx. I'm really into the same sort of things, so it'd be great to hear what you get up to. I don't know what sort of level you're at, but your back gardern is a great place to start practicing the skills.
If you want more space and really get a feel for bushcraft 'in situ', then you could do as Ant says, and ask a landowner. However, it might be hard to find the owner of somewhere suitable that would be happy for you to camp there. It's easy to have a look on the internet for campsites; I found an example page here http://www.find-a-campsite.co.uk/yorkshire.html . There are a lot of caravan parks, so open fires could be a problem. The best bet for getting somewhere to have a fire would be a scout campsite in my oppinion. It's definately worth asking, because a lot hire out to non scouters if they aren't in use. Hope that gives you some ideas!

In regards to land owners, your local council should be able to provide contact details...

If it's a campsite you want, this website (http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=4) lists campsites that allow fires (there are 4 listed for Yorkshire). If, on the other hand, you want to use a larger spread of land then the best thing is definitely to ask permission from a landowner.
