There's a whole load of sayings about the weather, some of which make sense. Red sky at night is a shepherd's delight' refers to the state of the atmosphere in the western sky which indicates fine weather for the following day in the UK. The variation, 'red sky at night means the hay barn's alight is less useful and tells you more about what's going on at the moment on the farm...
What other sayings have you come across and are they reliable?

A few that I've heard around:
When clouds look like rocks and towers, the earth will be refreshed by showers
Rainbow in the morning, travellers take warning; rainbow at night, traveller's delight.
Don't really see how either of them work though to be honest...

In certain parts of the west of Ireland they have a piece of seaweek hanging from their washing lines. They say that if it is wet, it is raining, if it is dry, it will rain soon. It's a strangely reliable method.

My friend has just returned from America. Over there the popular saying is 'when a hurricane is forcast, try to be on a different continent'.

The higher the clouds the better the weather.
High clouds indicate the dry air and high pressure of fair weather.
