I don't know if I've mentioned this book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wild-Places-Robert-Macfarlane/dp/1862079412/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1201194750&sr=8-1) before, but I finished it recently and it's FANTASTIC! It's full of wonderful accounts of the author's experiences bivvying in wild places around the UK and is beautifully written, so anyone who has any interest in wilderness should absolutely love it.
(And if you enjoy that, Robert MacFarlane has also written a book called Mountains of the Mind, which is equally good)

Sounds like something I'd like actually - added it to my massive list of books to read.

Looks good. I've stuck it on my wishlist.
It'll probably be a while before I get near it but I'll let you know what I think.

It really is very good. The author does some very bizarre things, like jumping into every freezing cold stream he finds, sleeping in the middle of a frozen tarn and bivvying overnight on the summit of Ben More in the middle of winter, but you can't help getting carried along by his enthusiasm for the subject.

Heh, sounds a bit like Bear Gryllis, but without the random consuption of living animals and massive media hype.
