An eyewitness account from a member of the MR team states that:

"He was walking around the path at the top. He fell off the back of the quarry (I believe it is called Falklands wall) and landed on some trees/rocks."

If he was at the back of the quarry, it may have been that it was easier to get to him from above. He wasn't climbing or abseiling, and therefore wasn't at the section of the face usually used for that purpose.

I hope he makes a full recovery - it sounds as if it was touch and go at the time.

this is the quarry in question , the m.r. teams were parked at the white P looking carpark at the back of the quarry and the helicopter landed on the laybye ( top left ) , i can tell you from personal experience that the path around the back of the quarry is missing in parts , and you have to step or jump over the gaps , and if you miss then its a long way down , only done it once and never again , just glad to see the chap is in hospital and recovering from his injurys,
