I think I've got an owl in my garden - something's making too-whit-too-woo noises, anyway. There are never normally owls round here - are there any other birds that make that sort of sound?

That's the thing - it's pitch black & I can't see where it might be. There are trees surrounding my whole garden, pretty much, so it could be anywhere.

ohh well , you got an owl there anyway , just wait untill the foxes start mating , the males cry like babys ( very loud ) defending their patch , iv'e just got over the blue tits outside my window , waking me up at first light , tapping on the nest box hole at first light every morning , i saved 2 of them from hypothermia last year ( fledglings ) stood in a puddle shivering , they liked the warmth of my hands though , took em in , dryed them off and off they went , aint nature brilliant ( the fast show )

Last winter I was out running in the middle of town when an Owl flew past. I was passing a cemetry with a six foot wall when it flew just overhead, silent and white. Nearly ended up in the cemetry myself, it scared the crap out of me. Beautiful though.

We get lots of foxes (the healthy looking rural kind, not the ratty urban ones). I've seen them wandering around the garden, past the patio door & on my driveway even in broad daylight!

I hate living in the middle of town, the only wildlife I see are the local drunks staggering home after a skin full

Thats not so bad, i spend 6 weeks in sheffield (S4) with my dad and encountered alot of city wildlife including owls, if you want to see owls, the best way is to insult them ;) I have sounds of owls on my mobile phone, and since they are very territorial they would seek out the intruder and give you the chance too see it ;)
