Im going down to cornwall in july to see bill bailey at the eden project for a cornish friends birthday. One of my other cornish frineds wants to have a go at climbing so i was thinking of taking him to have a play around. but am struggling to think of a good location, needs to be fairly low grades, and preferably not multi pitch and bolted would be amazing.Although am happy enough to put up a top set up.
As far as i can ascertain cornwalls pretty much all middle to high grades, mostly multi pitch routes
- devons an option, but its not much better
- portland would be ideal, but is about 3 hours outside cornwall so a bit of a mission, but probably feasible

Don't know much about climbing in the south, I'm afraid. Wasn't that VD that Tim Emmett took Julia Bradbury up in Cornwall? Commando Rib, I believe.

It's a multi-pitch, but an easy one. And if your mate is only seconding there's no reason he can't do a multi-pitch route (Julia Bradbury did it as her first route!). Might be a good idea to teach him how to prussic just in case though!

Maybe have a look on the Rock fax database for Cornwall. They tell you what the grades are so you could pick something that suits.

There are some great routes but most of the ones I've done are mid-grade multi-pitch. Portland is good but as you say, a long way away from where you are. I don't know of any other sport areas closer by. Another nice place is Dewerstone Rocks on the SW edge of Dartmoor, not far from Plymouth. Beautifull location but again, we mostly climbed mid grade 2 pitch routes. I did see youth groups top roping though so see if you can find any info on the web.

We also canoed on the Tamar one day.
