How many out there use a tarp for camping? In the scouting days and from the old woodscrafts books, this was considered the most versatile shelter.
Of course this was back before tents were more common than today.
Today I find myself using a tarp more again for camping here than a tent. They have changed little in design, but materials have reduced weight. Going from a 10' x 10' cotton tarp that weighed about 5 pounds to a new nylon one (same size and design) that weighs well under 2 pounds and compacts so small.
Of course the poncho could and still can make a good shelter when needed. I'm just wondering how many out there still practice this.
Thanks,
Maurice
