Does anybody have a solution to the problem of bra straps rubbing under rucksac straps when carrying a heavy load?:(

Yes, I've stopped wearing a bra when carrying a rucksack. My wife always used to complain that they came back all sweaty.

This will have to stop. It's not at all funny.

C'mon, this started out as a serious question... if none of you can answer it seriously then stopping filling the thread with random nonsense... :)

Its Marmot and Clives fault. I asked a serious question.

I think they should have their soft bits cut off for being silly.

Marmot

You shouldnt joke about that sort of thing....

.... a mans ear lopes are a very integral part of his body.

Surely a sports bra would work, no straps?

What's sports bras got to do with ear lobes?

What is it with this site and giving me a headache/confusing the hell out of me today? Biscuits and Scones; Soft bits & ear lobes!

I'd go back to bed if I didn't have so much work to do!

I'm not an expert on bras here. However, being male and enchanted with that general area, I might have a suggestion.

There are the sports bras that come up the center and then "y" across the tops of the shoulders to the front. I suppose those would be more likely to remain out of the way that the traditional "h" style.

If that fails, you might think about a back(ruck)sack that has a nice hip-belt and sternum strap on it. These will allow you to stabilize your load from moving side-to-side (sternum strap) and take some of the weight off the shoulders (hip-belt). I would suspect both of those would help with the chaffing across the shoulders.

i believe you can now buy female fit ruck sacks with a different strap layout for a womans chest

talking about h shape and y style straps you can also have a "u" shape strap which goes around your neck and leaves your shoulder and back free. these adjustable bras can be rearranged into h, y and u shape as silly as you want if you should be tired of one of the posistions. i am personally quite happy just using a normal h shape sports bra...hope this will help on your aching shoulders ;)

Hi, just a thought but perhaps some of the female posters could upload some example photos of the bra strap situation to give us males a better understanding of this stressful predicament :D

Oh yeah this is my first post so Hi everyone! Love the site.

First of all, hey Rich (?) and welcome to GoXplore - I'm glad you're enjoying yourself :D

Secondly, I don't think we have many female members of GoXplore yet (shame) and I highly doubt that any of them would do that :D

Thirdly, there is no thirdly.

Another male with an opinion on bras.....no surprise there. Just to let you know that my girlfriend has a Berghaus Ladies Akamas rucsack and she has not said anything about it interfering with her bra. I do know that she has her eye on some of those Helly Hansen Sports Bras for her up and coming birthday.

Well, I wear sports bras for trekking and outdoor activities. The traditional noraml bras are a killer. A few female friends rub powder around and on the areas prone to chafting to minimise, well, chafting. :p

I agree. Just fiddle with all the straps untill you get a good fit- saves money. Alternatively you could try compeeds where the straps rub. Ive been preaching them to marmot since our exped to Borneo for other friction related injuries. They're not just good for blisters!

Nonsense - just get yourself a good sports bra (no-one above an A cup can cope with going bra-less for a days hike anyway). I usually use a TNF Seamless Bra: no discomfort at all, plenty of support & it has wicking fabric to stop you getting sweaty. There are plenty of others out there that you could try as well.

I used to wear normal bras & it was a nightmare!

I Beg to differ! I recently saw a documentary about nudists who go walking for days without any "support". They seem quite happy going bra-less.

MariaD

Yes, but they're obviously mad! They go walking without waterproofs, trousers or jumpers as well, but you'd never actually recommend that to someone!

Because strapless bras are useless.

**SENSIBLE ADVICE ALERT**

Sorry to move this thread away from discussion about gaffa tape and polo mints!

I've just discovered that the Sportjock SuperSport bra is fantastic for pretty much kind of sport I do. And, which is far more important, it looks good enough to wear on its own on hot days.

It only comes in C, D, DD, E & F sizes, but I'm told that Sportjock also make the ActionSport bra for small busted women which is available in sizes A - C. If it's as good as the SuperSport bra, it'll be excellent.

I'm not a hiker by nature, but I saw this thread because I was searching for advice about the same problem when I jog.

I've only been able to solve the problem by wrapping bubble wrap around the straps and holding them it in place with sellotape. This pretty much stops the chafing across my shoulders. Obviously it's not ideal. You can't reuse the bubble wrap and it seems like a bit wasteful when I run three times per week. I've seen silicone pads for sale but they don't seem big enough, so I intend to start experimenting with silicone sheeting and mouse mats to make something more permenant. I'll let you know how I get on.

The other problem I've had with sports bras and sweating in them is that they also chafe on the underside of the breast. The solution to this is to let them heal over and then start wearing two bras- a sports bra and an ordinary bra- when you want to exercise. This seems to have elimated that problem for me.

It's a shame it has to be 'fixed' like that - have you tried some of the sports bras recommended earlier in the thread?

I usually use a TNF Seamless Bra: no discomfort at all, plenty of support & it has wicking fabric to stop you getting sweaty. There are plenty of others out there that you could try as well.

I'll point out that Maria also cycles and runs fells, because she's mad, so i guess it must work for her?

Surely someone must have made one that actually works?

If that doesn't work - try a different bag? Are you using one with a waist strap at the moment so that not all the weight is on your shoulders?

MariaD

For running, I'd say that the Sportjock SuperSport bra I mentioned (or ActionSport if you're smaller busted) is slightly better than the TNF one. Lots of people really rate Enell bras as well, so maybe they're worth a try? Everyone's shaped differently, though.
