Rancid Butter Smells

A couple of weeks ago my wife dropped a pack of butter out of the shopping in the boot of the car, on top of my tent. In the sunshine, the butter melted and ran all over the fabric of the tent. I thought I had wiped it all off and despite the tent being made of silconised fabric, when I got it out yesterday, I stank of rancid butter. Has anybody got any ideas how I can get the smell out?

I had the same thing happen to a pack, I ended up chucking it, after many futile attempts at deodorizing it. I wouldn't sleep in a tent that smelled of butter, you might get nocturnal visitors.
