Does anybody know anything about shock reduction footbeds for boots? I'm starting to suffer aches and pains after a day out on the hills and I wondered if it is worth buying some shock absorbers? Do they make a difference?

Indeed they do, as long as your aches are not caused by badly fitted boots!
They make a great deal of difference if you are running (My experience with shock absorbing footbeds was in the RAF), although I'm not sure how this would translate to a walking boot.
I have just purchased a new pair of boots (very handsome pair of Raichle Mt. Trail XT GTX!) and the only way I could have thicker footbeds is to wear thin socks as the fitting is crucial! You may need to buy new boots in order to install them, otherwise you may end up exacerbating the problem!
Good luck solving your woes!

I have used Sorbothane food beds in walking boots and I am fairy certain my feet benefitted when walking on uneven ground for a day.

I bought some and it looks like they do the trick. I will know better after I have had a chance to spend a couple of full days on the hills.

Are these like those 'party' soles they're advertising on tv over here at the moment?

If they are, I would strongly advise against wearing stilletto heels for serious expedition work.

In my sisters d of e group a few years ago this girl turned up in boots that could only have been classed as evening wear

That's really quite scary...

Women are well known for thinking about fashion first, appropriateness last! Try getting a woman to buy 'sensible' underwear for instance! I know of a few women who would happily climb a mountain wearing a thong! Not only is this inappropriate but would likely end in an infection!
You all too often see women with blistered feet as a result of badly fitting shoes, so maybe before them thinking about Sorbathane insteps, they try buying a shoe that fits in the forst place!!

They make a big difference. I wear shock absorbing insoles in most of my shoes. The ones that I recommend are shockblockers or shockblockers medical insoles.

Hmmm, I've heard of lasses from my D of E centre going out looking for high heeled walking boots. They always seem so suprised when they find that they don't exist.
They're always cheered up by the pink inside they get on some of the walking boots though!!
