What sort of whistle would you bring out to sea?
English bobby style whistle? Fox 40? Single chamber tubular whistle? Good ole pea whistle?

Pea wistles i find arent as loud as the others and if you lose the pea then you would be in the poo.
My chamber whistle by outdoor designs can hit 100 decibles but im pretty sure te fox 40 can out strip that without a problem. Although im not sure what the decible rating is on them

I use a lifesystems whistle I got from millets for £2.50 for a scout camp years ago. The packaging said it can hit 100 decibels. My school decibel meter thing, says it hit 140 :)

there must be a fixed distance at where the measurements are taken from as its obviosuly going to icnreasde the closer u are to them.
hopefully all manufacturers follow the same procedure for easy comparrisons

I'd imagine there would be tbh. One thing I'm wondering.. is there a 'best' whistle? The 'rolls royce' of whistles? The créme de la créme? The dogs cahoonas? :D

My pea whistle outdoes most whistles actually... Its been reliable for the past 3 yrs at sea.
However, I'm thinking of getting the Acme T2000, I the way it sounds.
Im considering the Acme Tornado cos I found a cool one thats glow in the dark.
However, everyone goes for the Fox 40, although I think its overpriced where I am cos lots of people buy it blindly and shopkeepers know it.

Typical men trying to see who's whistle makes the biggest noise.

It's not the size that counts...
It's how you use it!

Say... Aren't Acme whistles made in England? None of you use them?
Oh, I located a Fox 40 Pearl (http://www.fox40whistle.com/products/productdetail.php?id=7) http://www.fox40whistle.com/products/productdetail.php?id=7, it has a lower tone than the Classic although not as loud. I shall get one soon and check out whats the difference.

Have discovered that i have a acme tornado. Is s**t hot loud. Will be taking it to borneo instead of lifesystems tube whistle, cause the tornado outstrips it with ease. have been trying to find on internet what its decible rating is.
Have discovered that there is no set distance for manufactures to measure decible ratings from. Tnhe acme tornado should be at 114 db, but having seen a picture have discovered that mines the acme tornado slim and cant find a rating for it. must be well over 114 db. it sounds similar to one of the better fox 40 i heard the other day. ut obviously it sounds different when u blow the thing then if you stand by it

I assume you're talking abt the 636? Not too sure abt its rating but the T2000 can hit 125db but of course, the slimline is much more compact and convenient.
Btw, I also got myself a Fox 40 and the packaging says it can hit 115db
