Can somebody help me please. I'm not sure what the question is really but last weekedn when I did my silver expedition, two of the leaders seemed to find my mallet really funny. I still don't understand what was so amusing but all they wouold say wos that I had to think about saving wieght if im going to do gold. I think it was the mallet that coused the amusement but i can't see why because it was the lightest in the shop.

Does anybody kniw anything anout lightweight mallets for backpackers?

I dont think its the mallet, just the fact that u feel that u need one. We as a nation are covered in rocks which would work just aswell, failing that a tree branch or shoe. Neither of which you need to carry around extra, thus saving on weight.
So in short youve wasted your money if u ask me.

OIC!

I think they probably had a bit of a laugh when they saw my tomato ketchup bottle in my backback too. Perhaps I should see if I can leave some of it at home next time.

Thanks

Stuff like tomato ketchups and jams and sauces in general, there is no need to buy a huge catering size container, slip a few sachets of stuff from service stations! Free and easily transpotable, what else could u want...?

...well apart from someone else to carry it all!

Don't you have to pay for them?

I thought this was a joke when I first entered the thread, but I see from the ribbing poor Flutterby has been given, that it started with a serious question. I'm on Flutterby's side!

When I started I had absolutley no idea what to take on a backpacking trip and what to leave behind. It was only through the advice of good friends (and one or two good books), that I learned how to keep the packweight down and the comfort level up.

So leave Flutterby alone and remember what it was like when you started!

Last time i went on a hike i took wit me a half eaten chicken curry from the night bfor.
No sauces extra thouh.
Course the sources at service stations are free, its only cheap places like uni canteens which charge you extra for the stuff!
