Being 'explorers' often means that we get to see some of the greatest sights - the view from the top of a mountain, the sky at night, trees that are thousands of years old.

So, the natural next step of things to discuss is the public conveniences that line the way. Some are dark and dingy, others are fresh and bright, and some are just plain wierd.

So, has anyone been in any water holes that beat these ones?

Enjoy! And let the mature discussion begin..

Wow, nice one ollie - you've brought the mature debate at go eXplore to a whole new level.

Seriously though, some camping conveniences are seriously suspect. On D of E, one night we camped in a field where they stored full portaloos... not for our use though, our toilet was a quater mile away in the farmhouse!

Also, another place we went the toilet was a stone outhouse, with no light. As a result, there was a hole (at least a foot across each way) in the wall. Being the mature young adults we were at thatr age, this obvioulsy posed no problem - well in the end we had to have pairs; on to go and one to be 'toilet guard'. Oh dear, it just shows how we kids can be sensible and adult about such things.

Haha, I just ran a search on google images, and I think I've found one of the most remote public toilets.

In Nepal the 'toilet' or 's**t tent' is a 'chaarpi', if that is how it is spelled.

A colleague of mine with whom I have enjoyed trekking in wild places does a nice line in afterdinner slide shows entitled 'My Travels with a chaarpi!'

It always raises a titter, but the views we have enjoyed from some of them are too wonderful for words! I have never been one of those who can sit there for hours reading a newspaper, but I have sat in many a chaarpi for ages gazing at the view!
