Don't get into the mindset that you can't wash clothes when out and about - you sure can! It might be tempting to buy enough clothes to last you a fortnight without washing, but then it costs a lot more and you carry twice as much!
I've seen some people using what is known in some shops as the 'kitchen sink', a big waterproof... bag that takes the shape of a sink when filled with water, kind of how a paddling pool works. Great fun if you've got the space, if not, use a stream! :D

I use two ways of washing clothes:
On a campsite: Fill a basin full of hot water. Put one piece of clothing in at a time. Take out and scrub it with a bar of soap. Put it back in the water and get all of the soap out of it, wring it out, then hang it off your rucksack the next day. (This way you can carry 2 t-shirts with you and wash one each day. Just hope that it doesn't rain :D)
Wild Camping: Knock any loose mud/dirt off by slapping it on a rock, find a stream, throw the clothing in, take it out scrub on a clean rock, put back in, scrub it with a rock or your hands (take care not to rip the clothing), take it out, wring it out, put it on your rucksack while your walking and let it dry in the wind. Again, hope it doesn't rain (or heaven forbid, snow) :D

I was always under the impression that clohes, like hair, washed themselves if you left them long enough?
- seriously tho, if you dont wash wicking materials frequently they hold their pong forever, and it never washess out - believe me, i know, not from personal experience, but having spent 4 weeks with 16 other guys in the jngle who nearly all had wicking tops - and the inability to wash them - POOOOOOOOOUUUEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Sounds..erm...pleasant?
I noticed that with a base layer I had years ago, eventually I just through it out it stank so much.

Has anyone tried spin drying clothes when out in the wild?
Net bag with lots of holes and a pull cord, hold the cord and spin the bag round your head, then really annoy everyone else with the water that flies off?
I'm sure I saw / felt someone doing this once...

a practical use to poi skills?!
the annoying thing about wringing out clothes is that it tends to stretch them

My rucksack has a net drying bag on the outside at the back and a drawcord at the top. I tried putting my wet clothes inside and swinging it round my head but it was far too heavy and I kept falling over.
