Hello everyone,

I'm living in Inverness and will be for quite a long while. I'm from the southern Appalachian Mountins in the states. Yes I'm American, whatever that means. In the past I have been a Wilderness (primitive/survival/emergency) skills instructor, Search & Rescue officer as well as a professional backpacker- just last spring & summer. What does all those titles mean? Nothing! But they make my knees ache these days. But any way I'm in Scotland now and would like to meet some people who are as interested in being out in the mountians as much as I. I'm looking to backpack into Ben Nevis/CMD in the next week. I thought I would check to see if anyone wants to go. I will be leaving from the Nevis range Car park making my way to the dam and on up to Coire Guibhsachan were I will probably take it real easy untill early the next morning. The next day will be a Ben Nevis ascent by way of CMD. Depending on how I feel I will walk out to the car park, or stay overnight again somewhere in the hills. I have all the gear, gps maps, so forth. Some company would be nice.

Any walk would be nice. I just need to get out there in a bad way. City life is hard on me! I was very glad to find this site. Thanks all and this sure is a nice place you have here in this country, and the people are kind and gracious as well. A testimony to whom you all are. Best regards. Thanks, Tres

Thanks, I was wondering if I would be hated because I'm american. I appreciate the welcome. Best wishes!

Of course not. One of the wonders of the internet is bridging the nationality divides, not that there are really that many. Whilst there are quite a lot of guys from the UK on here at the moment, it's not a 'UK only site'. I'd certainly be fascinated to hear about some of the places you can find on the 'other side of the pond'!

Cool. The highlands are truly great. But one of the things I miss about Home is the mountian "range." I'm from way over in Eastern portion of Tennessee and the western part of North Carolina in the mountians by the way. Right on the border between Tennessee and North Carolina.

Imagine if all the Munro's where all bunched together, running in every direction. You could walk for three, 10 15 days straight and still be in good supply of new peaks right in front of you to exsplore. That's home.
But funny thing. The more I'm around the Scottish people and culture, the more it reminds me of home. I did not know why or how this could be untill a few days ago. Come to find out most of the pioneers that setteld where I'm from there in the southern appalachian mountians where Scots who had just been ran off during the clearances. No wonder Scotland seems like home. In the states I was raised in a "mini-Scotland." I found out to that the Highland games they hold in North Carolina often times has even more participation than the highland games in the Highlands. Hmm.. all very insightful...
