Further to this -

Tinders can be broken down into types with relation for sources of ignition.

For example,

Tinders for Chemical ignition

Tinder for Sparks are materials with a large surface area - ie fluffy (cotton wool) or vapour (Gas stoves) tinders with low surface areas such as Birch bark or Candles can be lighted with a spark but these require more skill with the firesteel.

Tinders for flame ignition are materials easily combustable but with lower surface areas such as strips of birch bark, paper or Strips of rubber.

Tinders for chemical ignition depend on the chemicals used - Pot permang and glycerin can be old news papers with something like pot permang and sugar would work better with grasses (dry)

Practice makes perfect and you should try all combinations available to work out what works best for you.

Lastly remember fire lighting without land owners permission is illegal - also remember to respect the woods and clean up your fire place and litter afterwards.
